Renovation work currently underway on the Historic Meeting House may limit public access this summer. Check back for specific location details.

The Town Hall is located at 1647 County Rte 5, Canaan, NY 12029. Just south of the blinking light. Parking is across the street at Stoddard Field or behind the Town Hall. Events are open to the public and are presented free of charge.

August 8, 4:00 pm

"The Wolf's Path: American Revolutionary Soldiers" by Canaan Town Historian Dodie Gearing at the Town Hall. She will present brief biographical studies of just a few of the 87 American Revolutionary War Soldiers who were the early settlers of the King’s District or the Town of Canaan, New York.

The Early settlers such as the Warners, Beebes, Cadys, Fords, Darrows, Davis, Frisbees, and Lovejoys. These early settlers moved into New Britain, New Concord, Canaan Center, Canaan Four Corners, Flatbrook and Red Rock. These men comprised Colonel William Bradford Whiting’s 17th Militia who fought in the Battles of Saratoga which is considered by many historians to be the turning point of the American Revolution.

August 15, 3:00 pm

"The Canaan Richmond Boulder Train" by Buzz Doherty at the Town Hall. The Canaan/Richmond Boulder Train is a famous geological formation of glacial erratic boulders stretching over 15 miles from Canaan, New York, to Richmond, Massachusetts. It was a landmark 19th-century discovery used to study glacial movement and ice-age theories.

Doherty's presentation will be part of the Historical Society's annual meeting, which will be followed by a reception with refreshments.
